5 Ways to Protect Your Time & Energy

Over and over we meet amazing professionals whose flames are burning at both ends, trying to do a great job with it all: work, family, friends, spouse, children, volunteering, exercise and more. If you add to this the stress of a job search or career change, it is overwhelming.

When it comes down to it, what is our most important commodity? Our time and our energy.

Time is not about getting done as much as you can, inhumanly cramming, multi-tasking, racing through the motions. Time is about the flow of life. Decisions. Priorities. Recognize you cannot do it all. Accept it, embrace it, do what you can and let go of the rest. Remain positive.

Energy is not about calories, complex carbs vs. simple carbs, yoga or running. Energy is what fills up our personal gas tanks, keeps us going throughout the day and allows us to renew ourselves and keep our batteries charged.

Protect both ~ time and energy. This is so important for working parents. Weigh your career and how your current job or future job affects your time and your energy. Remember:

  • Sleep, exercise, small healthy meals, light snacks
  • Show gratitude and appreciation, spontaneously and with intention
  • Each morning have limited priorities for the day (think 3)
  • Engage with people who are positive, realistic and real
  • Control what you can and let go of what you can’t

Manage your time. Manage your energy. Both are so important, personally and professionally.
