4 Ways to Pin for Career Development
Am I the only one? I had a bulletin board in my bedroom ~ as an adolescent, teenager and collegian. I would cut or rip out magazine clippings of my favorite quotes, pictures of celebrity crushes and things I liked or admired. I also added current pictures of my friends and family and swatches of my favorite fabrics.
I know, so ’80s and ’90s.
Today there is Pinterest, an online pinboard to organize and share things. It is awesome to use personally to pin things that rock, ideas for gifts for your family and friends, clothes you want to buy and images that just make you happy. It is also a tool for discovery.
But let’s get down to business. How can you leverage it professionally?
Pinterest is a great way to:
- Build your professional persona – Visually create you, your interests, knowledge, voice, social media savvy
- Prospect potential employers – Check out and connect with them. If you are interviewing with the company, during the interview if appropriate, mention something you saw on its Pinterest boards
- Gather information – You can search articles, infographics, videos, etc., relating to industry trends, current events and association findings
- Identify interview attire – Create a board. Pin suits, shirts, pants, skirt and accessories
You can pin it to win it! Jump on and have fun.
Don’t forget or neglect other social networks. LinkedIn and Twitter can also help you connect with professionals and companies.
Wishing you success in your professional journey!
