A dynamic educational institution in Dallas is seeking a hardworking professional to fill the role of Staff Accountant. Under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant will support the accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data. This role is ideal for a diligent individual eager to develop skills and excel in a collaborative environment that values financial transparency and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll and Journal Entries: Post payroll journal entries in the accounting software and run monthly reports, reclassifying corrections as necessary.
  • Invoice Processing: Handle invoices for 1099 Independent Contractors and maintain the timekeeping system with precise accounting codes.
  • Accounts Payable: Process weekly accounts payable, ensuring accurate invoice entry and timely payments to vendors.
  • Student Billing: Manage student billing processes, including invoicing and delinquency reporting to maintain current financial records.
  • Audit Preparation: Assist the Controller in preparing for and conducting annual audits by providing vital financial documentation.
  • Receipt Management: Receive, process, and deposit payment receipts and gifts, ensuring accurate application to the General Ledger.
  • Ledger Maintenance: Maintain General Ledger and subsidiary ledgers in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
  • Closing Processes: Process month-end and year-end General Ledger closings for investment accounts, and prepare schedules of account analysis for periodic and annual audits.
  • Collaboration: Work with the development team to generate and deliver financial data reports that support fundraising and development initiatives.
  • Policy Maintenance: Keep accounting policies and procedures up-to-date.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-years of accounting experience with proven advancement in responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with comprehensive accounting software systems
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong ability to present sophisticated information clearly, both in written and verbal forms
  • Capable of interacting and communicating professionally as a teammate with parents, students, and colleagues

Preferred:

  • Not-for-Profit fund experience
  • Experience with the Blackbaud suite of non-profit accounting and fundraising products, or other Enterprise Resource Planning Software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Senior Systems)
